Niranjan Shah, a pioneering engineer and entrepreneur, founded Globetrotters Engineering Corporation in Chicago in 1974. Born in the village of Matadaha, Gujarat, Shah earned his engineering degree from Birla Engineering College before pursuing his master's in civil engineering at the University of Mississippi. Under his leadership, Globetrotters has grown from a one-person operation into a renowned firm employing over 250 professionals, specializing in engineering, architecture, and construction management.
Shah's company has shaped Chicago's infrastructure through significant projects, including the expansion of O'Hare International Airport and the development of Chicago's 911 Emergency Communications Center. His commitment to excellence earned Globetrotters the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1986.
Beyond his professional achievements, Shah has dedicated himself to philanthropy and public service. He has served on numerous boards, including the University of Chicago and Loyola University, while supporting educational and healthcare initiatives both in Chicago and his native India. In recognition of his contributions, Shah received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2006 and the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award from the Government of India, acknowledging his impact on both American society and the Indian diaspora.
